Elementary School Teacher
Job Description
Elementary school teachers usually instruct one class of children in several subjects including math, language, science, and social studies. A small percentage of elementary teachers focus on one special subject – such as music, art, reading, or physical education.
Educational Paths
Public school teachers are required to be licensed through the state board of education. Each state board has its own specific requirements, but many require a bachelor’s degree in education. Licensing may not required for private school teachers.
Job Outlook
Student enrollment is expected to rise more slowly than in the past as children of the baby-boom generation leave the school system. Projected enrollments and demand for teachers will vary by region.
